ORFEUS (Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology) is a non-profit foundation that promotes seismology in the greater European region through the collection, archival and distribution of seismic waveform data, metadata and closely related services and products. The data and services are collected or developed at national level by more than 60 contributing Institutions and further developed, integrated, standardized, homogenized and promoted through ORFEUS.
ORFEUS services comprise:
(i) the European Integrated waveform Data Archive (EIDA);
EIDA is the distributed data centre to (a) securely archive seismic waveform data and metadata gathered by European research infrastructures, and (b) to provide transparent access to the archives by the geosciences research communities. Within EPOS, EIDA works on the development and implementation of tools and services to provide transparent access to seismological waveform data and associated metadata across the EIDA nodes:
and (ii) the European Strong-Motion databases (SM);
The European Strong-Motion databases (SM) consists of the Rapid Raw Strong Motion (RRSM) and the Engineering Strong-Motion database (ESM), and Strong-motion data.
The Rapid Raw Strong Motion (RRSM) provides earthquake information and strong motion parameters including PGA and PGV within minutes of any event. The Engineering Strong-Motion database (ESM) is a reviewed archive of accelerometric waveforms from events with magnitudes above 4.0 recorded in Europe and the middle-East since 1969.
