EPOS is proud to announce the opening of the brand-new training course on Open Science and Research Data Management (RDM) in Solid Earth Sciences, produced in the framework of the Skills4EOSC project.
A blended product mixing self-paced learning with live classes, the course is intended as a Train-the-trainer course Designed for researchers, PhD students, teachers and faculty members in the field of Solid Earth Sciences,as well as anyone interested in learning more about the practice of RDM in the context of solid Earth Sciences, and this course offers a deep dive into the practical application of Open Science (OS) and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles.
Course Overview
The program is structured to demonstrate how Open Science and FAIR principles are implemented in the EPOS portal, providing participants with hands-on experience through practical examples and case studies. Key topics include:
- Understanding Open Science and FAIR Principles: Learn how these frameworks enhance transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration in research.
- Data Management in Geosciences: Explore the lifecycle of research data, from collection to sharing, with a focus on heterogeneous data types and processing levels.
- EPOS Portal in Action: Gain skills to effectively use the EPOS portal for research and data sharing.
- European Regulations: Discover the legal and technical requirements for data sharing under the European Data Strategy.
Who Should Attend?
The course is suitable for researchers, PhD students, teachers and faculty members in the field of Solid Earth Sciences, as well as anyone interested in learning more about Open Science, FAIR and RDM in the context of Solid Earth Sciences. It is especially recommended for professionals in national and thematic competence centers interested in reusing the offered Open Educational Resources to set up in a new training.
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
Format: A blend of self-paced learning and live interactive sessions.
- Self-paced modules: Available from 12 May (Part 1) and 19 May (Part 2).
- Live sessions:
- Session #1: Friday, 16 May, 10:00-12:00 CEST
- Session #2: Friday, 23 May, 10:00-12:00 CEST
Why Attend?
Open Science is transforming research by making data and findings more accessible and reusable. At EPOS we strongly believe that data sharing enables transparency, reproducibility, and collaboration. It allows others to verify your work, reuse data for new research questions, and build upon existing results.
Highlights from the Training Content Include:
- Research Data Lifecycle: Learn how raw data evolves into structured, reusable datasets.
- Metadata and Interoperability: Discover the role of standardized metadata in making data FAIR.
- Licensing and Citation: Understand how to license research outputs for maximum reuse and impact.
