Open position at Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) on Artificial Intelligence applications for Open Science. The project will be in collaboration with EPOS, the leading force in the field of Open Science and advanced technological tools for solid Earth sciences. The ideal candidates have skills in Python, an interest in artificial intelligence applications, and are passionate about Earth sciences.

The focus on innovation

AI represents the next technological frontier for many different scientific fields. The focus of this project will be the development of AI-based applications for the EPOS Data Portal, the one point platform to discover, combine, visualise and download datasets from over 260 data services across Europe, covering 10 thematic domanis (seismology, GNSS, geology, tsunami, satellite data, volcanos, multi-scale laboratories, anthropogenic hazards, near-fault observatories, geomagnetism).  A basic knowledge of Python programming language is required.

Why working for EPOS

By integrating scientific data  from disparate sources (e.g. seismographs, satellites, volcanic observatories), EPOS enables researchers to create new knowledge and answer society's questions in this field. EPOS involves 26 European countries and 10 different thematic communities: being part of it means to work in an international environment that promotes collaboration, diversity, innovation, and be able to contribute first-hand to meeting global challenges related to environmental science and to the evolution of Open Science. You will get the chance to work in a highly motivated team focused on developing software to serve the field of earth sciences. Recommended for those who enjoy working collaboratively in a creative environment to contribute to earth science research.

EPOS is inclusive

In EPOS, we believe that diversity is an invaluable asset to our organisation. Fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace stands therefore as a priority for us. We wholeheartedly encourage applications from individuals representing diverse ethnicities, cultural and religious backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, and individuals at all career stages for all our job and internship opportunities.
