On December 1st, 2021 the webinar “Green transition for competitive and sustainable research infrastructures” will be held online from 11:30 to 13.00 (CET).

This event aims to raise awareness and encourage exchange on the challenges and the success stories of green transition, especially for research infrastructures (RI).

Through a series of talks and panel debate, speakers and participants will reflect on and canvass the issues, opportunities and best practices facilitating green transition, how to adopt a more coordinated approach across research infrastructures landscape and what should be key priorities in terms of investments and scientific agendas for RIs in order to be competitive and sustainable on the longer term.

The event will begin with opening remarks delivered by the CEO of CSC - IT Center for Science, Kimmo Koski. The Director-General for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, Jean-Eric Paquet, will deliver a keynote address focusing on how policies and programmes like the Green Deal support the vision and priorities of scientific research but also act as a compass for the investments in sustainable technologies and green ICT.

The Executive Director of CERIC-ERIC and newly elected ESFRI chair, Jana Kolar, will follow with a talk on the contributions of RIs to global challenges,  green transition and related changes introduced by the renewed ERA and the Pact for R&I.

Lilli Freda (EPOS ERIC Executive director / INGV), Christos Arvanitidis (Lifewatch ERIC CEO), Markku Kulmala (INAR Executive Committee Chair / University of Helsinki), and Sverre Quale (ECCSEL ERIC Director) will join the panel discussion.
