WP6 - Technical preparation
The EPOS concept is based on the integration of the existing national Research Infrastructures (RI) in solid Earth science. The primary challenge of EPOS is to generate added value to already existing and future infrastructures. An effective e-science infrastructure shall integrate the existing national and international infrastructures, organize data flow between them, allow access to relevant data and data products stored in repositories and supply a platform for different types of users, including the computing and modelling community, which are developing their own strategies and networks to link available and existing computing facilities to high performance computing. In this way the European level coordination leverages national and international infrastructures for added value.
All partners contribute to the work package under the leadership of GFZ.Objectives
-
The main objective is the development of a novel and efficient e-infrastructure concept addressing the needs of the end-users. Within this primary objective there are the following sub-objectives that are critical in order to attain the main objective:
-
To optimize the best architecture for the multidisciplinary distributed research infrastructure;
-
To guarantee the technical interoperability of the distributed research infrastructures;
-
To guarantee the adoption of common standards and practices for the implementation phase;
-
To facilitate the access to data centres and to the use of modelling and processing tools;
2. Set-up the design and implementation of an EPOS demonstration Experiment
