SED/ETHZ
The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zürich is the leading institution in seismology and geophysics in Switzerland and the federal office responsible for earthquake monitoring and hazard assessment. The SED conducts service, research and education activities in a wide range of geophysical subjects. The SED has been and is a leading partner in EC and international projects in the field of seismic infrastructures, including MEREDIAN, NERIES (PI) and GEISER. It is a leader in the advancement of unified hazard mapping on a worldwide and European scale, as one of the leading institutions in the UN/IDNDR demonstration project GSHAP – Global Seismic Hazard Assessment Program (1992-1999), the SESAME/ESC project on Seismic Hazard Assessment of the Euro-Mediterranean region (1997-2002) and the Global Earthquake Model (GEM, 2009+). In recent years the SED Director held the Chair of the Board of Directors of ORFEUS, the Presidency of the European Seismological Commission, and the Chair of the International Federation of Digital Seismic Networks. The SED has expertise in seismic hazard and risk assessment, seismotectonics, source dynamics, statistical seismology, site effects and microzonations, engineering seismology, global and local tomography, verification seismology, network installation and operation, and geodesy.
Contribution to the PP.
SED-ETH Zürich will lead WP5 Strategy and will contribute to WP4 Financial Plan, WP6 Technical Preparation, and WP8 Stakeholder Interactions and Dissemination, and participate with minor efforts WPs 2 3 and 7. SED-ETH Zürich will also coordinate the overall Swiss participation in EPOS (D. Giardini).
WP5 D. Giardini will lead this WP, be responsible for designing the WP5 workshop program and development of products and deliverables. He will also lead Tasks 5.1, 5.4, and 5.6 of this WP. WP4 F. Haslinger will lead SED contributions to this WP, in particular contributing to Tasks 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3.
