UU, Uppsala Universitet
Uppsala University (http://www.uu.se) is the oldest university in Scandinavia, encompasses nine faculties, with about 40,000 students, and c. 6,000 employees. The university has more than 500 full professors, of which about 20% are women. Some 4,000 undergraduate degrees and about 400 doctorates are awarded every year.
Contribution: to the PP.
Uppsala University will participate in WP3 WP6 and WP7 (see figure)
In WP3, Task 3.5, UU will be involved in gathering and integrating relevant information on the existing national infrastructures and on the needs and requirements of user communities with interim or final analyses of related work packages. Proposals for the nodes of the distributed RI (EPOS Data Centres and Core Services) will be brought forward for consideration of an agreement by the principal governing body for the preparatory phase. In particular, UU will investigate how geodesy and deep drilling can be integrated into EPOS.
In WP6, Task 6.1, UU will participate in a comprehensive overview/review of the current data infrastructure status for the different EPOS components. This will represent the first step towards the integration of national data providers as well as providing an updated mapping of the existing data repositories and available e-infrastructures. The goal is to analyse data provider requirements in order to promote and support the EPOS implementation plan, taking into account the users’ needs. Again, there will be a focus on integrating geodesy and deep drilling into EPOS.
In WP7, Task 7.3, UU will, based on the inputs provided by WP6 and WP4, contribute to an analysis of possible life cycle scenarios of the technical components of the infrastructure during construction, operation and maintenance phases will be made. Trying to anticipate technical developments over the next 20 years tentative cost models will be proposed and integrated in the updated financial plan.
Principal personnel involved.
Christopher Juhlin (UU) is professor of geophysics with a research focus on high resolution reflection seismic. He is also scientific coordinator for the Swedish Deep Drilling Program (SDDP). Henning Lorenz (UU) is project coordinator for SDDP with a research focus on Arctic geology. Reynir Böðvarsson (UU) is director of the Swedish National Seismic Network (SNSN) and has been responsible for its design and operations since 1999. He also designed the SIL system on Iceland. Valentin Troll (UU) holds the chair in petrology at Uppsala University, specializing in petrological and geochemical investigations.
