CSIC
The Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the major Public Research Institution in Spain. It comprises more than 3000 researchers in all scientific disciplines, which are integrated in more than 100 different Institutes distributed along the whole country. As an example the Department of Earth Structure and Dynamics (EDT) and the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera (ICTJA) of Barcelona are part of CSIC being CSIS the legal entity which represents them in EPOS
The relevant Spanish institutions for EPOS data sharing and integration are mentioned below:
Institute of Earth Sciences-CSIC (ICTJA), Barcelona, Department of Geology, University of Granada -Andalusian Institute of Geophysics (IAG), Department of Geology, University of Oviedo, Department of Physics of the Earth, Univ. Complutense of Madrid and Institute of Geosciences (IGEO), Department of Geodynamics and Geophysics, University of Barcelona, IGME (Instituto Geologico y Minero de España, Madrid, ROA (Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada) San Fernando, Cadiz, Department of Geology, Authonomous University of Barcelona + Dep. geology, Univ. Salamanca, Department of Cartography and Geodesy, University of Jaen, Geology group, University of Cadiz, National Geographic Institute (IGN), Geological Institute of Catalonia (IGC).
In order to reach strong consensus at national level, consultation of all national stakeholders and in particular the above mentioned legal entities will be ensured, in particular by active participation of their representatives in EPOS meetings and workshops. However resources (and personnel costs) necessary to the different work packages are directly committed by the beneficiary only and not by any of these entities which are third parties to the project.
Contribution to the PP.
CSIC will participate in WP3 WP5, WP6 and WP8. WP3 in Task 3.2 development of policies for partnership integration; WP5 Task leader in Task 5.2 integrating the EU solid earth community; WP6 in Task 6.2 integration of EPOS data providers: access to Data Centres and technical facilities. WP8 in Task 8.3 and 8.4 EPOS promotional activities.
Principal personnel involved.
Prof. Josep Gallart. He is Research Professor of the Institute of Earth Sciences-CSIC, Barcelona. His scientific activity focus on studies on the Earth structure and dynamics, based on geophysical/seismic methods, developed in different geotectonic environments, such as orogenic systems (Pyrenees, Himalayas-Tibet, Urals, Betics-Rif), continental margins, subduction zones or volcanic systems. He has leaded 15 Spanish research projects and 6 European Union projects. He has published more than 90 papers in SCI Journals, and has an h (Hirsch) index of 26.
