IGF PAS

The Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IGFPAS) is a scientific institution representing the main stream of Polish basic research in Earth sciences. It is the only institution in Poland that performs monitoring of geophysical fields in seismology, geomagnetism, and selected areas of atmospheric physics. The research broadly covers the following scientific fields: seismology, geomagnetism, Earth’s interior dynamics, physics of the atmosphere, hydrology and environmental hydraulics, polar and marine research. IGF PAS is a leading member of the GEOPLANET Center – an initiative of 4 Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences aimed and coordinating the physical Earth science research in Poland. IGF PAS is coordinating at national level the relevant Polish organizations for EPOS PP, these are listed below:

  • Military University of Technology

  • Center of Space Research PAS,

  • Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography.

  • KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

In order to reach strong consensus at national level, consultation of all national stakeholders and in particular the above mentioned legal entities will be ensured, in particular by active participation of their representatives in EPOS meetings and workshops. However resources (and personnel costs) necessary to the different work packages are directly committed by IGF PAS only and not by any of these entities which are third parties to the project.

Contribution to the PP.

IGF PAS will participate in WP3. Task 3.3. IGF PAS will take part in defining the rules under which users will be granted access to EPOS data services, in agreement with the data providers responsible for the deployment, maintenance and operation of the underlying data infrastructures. The task will contribute to the definition of coherent and harmonized data policies and practices .

WP4 IGF PAS will participate in Task 4.3 Secure funding commitments from national governments and funding agencies.

WP6: Within this work package IGF PAS will undertake an activity to establish the European Center for Induced Seismicity Research.

Principal personnel involved.

The following persons will take part (coordinate) the IGF PAS activity in the designated work packages:

Prof. Paweł Rowiński, Head of the IGF PAS (WP5).

Prof. Wojciech Dębski Research Director of the IGF PAS, seismologists, expert on mining seismology (WP2,WP3, WP5,WP7, WP8).

Prof. Stanisław Lasocki. Head of Department of Seismology and Dynamics of the Earth Interior (IGF PAS), expert on seismic hazard and mining seismology. (WP4,WP6,WP8).

Dr. Paweł Wiejacz, Head of the Seismological Observation and Interpretation Group, IGF PAS (WP6).
